Richard studied painting at the University for the Creative Arts Farnham from 2008 until 2012 and has since had his work exhibited widely throughout the UK. Most notabley in 2014, Richard was shortlisted for the prestigious South Central art prize, which led to his paintings being featured on popular news channel, BBC South Today. Then in 2015, he was selected as a prize winner in the Windsor and Newton painting prize which saw his work displayed at the Griffin Gallery Open.
Richard’s main area of interest is in a fusion between classical and contemporary illusionistic processes of image making, within drawing and painting.
His practice explores our relationship with the digitally manipulated imagery that lies within our culture. His work draws on a wide range of sources, from old masters paintings to film stills and photos that he has taken himself. Richard seeks to become “the filter” when applying this imagery to the painted surface.
